What is an Ad Server?

An ad server is a web-based technology that allows publishers, advertisers, and ad networks to distribute and manage ads on online properties and mobile applications.

Types of Ad Servers

You need to be aware of two kinds of ad servers: publisher-side ad servers, often referred to as “sell side” ad servers, and advertiser-side ad servers, commonly referred to as “buy-side” ad servers. Each uses similar technology, but are deployed in different ways.

How Does an Ad Server Work?

Publisher-side ad servers allow publishers to manage the ads that appear on their digital properties and earn revenue. Advertiser-side ad servers allow advertisers to easily track and manage their purchased ads on publishers’ websites, apps, etc.

Simply put, ad servers simplify the advertising process for both publishers and advertisers.

Advertisers get easy access to the metrics they need to run successful marketing campaigns, without having to visit every website and app that displays their ads. And publishers can provide this vital information to advertisers on autopilot, free of hassle.
