What is App Store Analytics: Platform Version?

Apple is constantly updating operating systems (OS) for their devices. Users don’t always take advantage of these updates in a timely manner. As such, your apps will likely be used/played on multiple OS’s at one time.

The “Platform Version” filter inside App Store Connect will help you learn the OS version on which your apps are downloaded and used. This data can be very useful to app marketers. Did you generate more downloads on iOS 13 or 14? More importantly, how many users have continued to use your app through multiple platform versions? This will tell you how engaged your users are and how effectively you’ve updated your apps to comply with Apple’s OS requirements.

We should mention that “App Units,” “In-App Purchases,” and “Sales” metrics are based on the version on which the app is downloaded, while “Active in Last 30 Days,” “Product Page Views,” “Retention,” and “Sessions” metrics are based on the iOS version on which the app is used.

To access the “Platform Version” filter, login to App Store Connect, navigate to the metric you want to analyze (think “Sales” or “Sessions”) and filter by Platform Version.
