What are Offerwall Ads?

Offerwall ads are a specific type of ad unit, in which app developers offer their users something beneficial whenever they engage with an advertisement.

How Do Offerwall Ads Work?

Let’s pretend, for example, that you’re playing a puzzle game. You’ve reached the final level and the puzzle is incredibly difficult. Unfortunately, you’ve run out of hints, which means you might not be able to solve the puzzle and beat the game. What do you do?

Well, if the game is equipped with offerwall ads, you may be given the option to watch a video, take a survey, or complete some other action in exchange for an additional hint. If you complete the offerwall’s action, you’ll receive the hint and be able to finish the puzzle.

Casual games like Candy Crush and Bejeweled use offerwall ads all the time. In fact, you’ve probably seen one if you’ve played one of these games in the past.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Offerwall Ads

There are three benefits to offerwall ads that you should be aware of:

  1. They’re user-initiated and completely non-disruptive.
  2. They allow app developers to monetize their free games.
  3. They can boost user engagement by as much as 55.83%.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of disadvantages to offerwall ads, too:

  1. Most ad networks do not support offerwall ads.
  2. Apple prohibits using offerwall ads to promote other apps/games.

Still, offerwall ads can be incredibly beneficial—if you use them correctly. To make sure your offerwall ads are optimized, segment your users, create a seamless ad experience, and only use fresh content. These things will help you create amazing offerwall ads.
